Available Light

There’s a lot of talk these days about photographers who only use available light. I guess you could include me in that category: all my lights are always available! In this case, at an outdoor reception in Bend at the Broken Top Resort, I threw a couple of speedlights onto some flash stands, hid them behind some umbrellas, and used my Pocket Wizards to sync everything together. Without the addition of my own lights, this courtyard area was completely dark. With those lights it was no problem to capture the dancing all night long!

Engagement Session with the Poppies @ Eugene Oregon by Bruce Berg

There is always something about a field of flowers that says “Love” to me.

Speaking of Love…when you go to hire a photographer~please make sure you get FINISHED images-not just a disc.  That is service and love to you.

I’ve heard stories of how great photographs may look on the computer, but the prints look horrid.  (Those pesky little pixels don’t translate well if the photographer didn’t do their job properly.)  And while its great to have those facebook images, I encourage you to not become part of the Lost Generation-where there is no physical record of what you look like on paper.

Discs last 5 years before data starts being corrupted.  Files can get lost.  You get the idea…..its worth the extra investment.

Just giving you a disk is a cop out done by photographers who don’t want to do the work of retouching and customizing your photographs.  Designing an album or book takes skill and-T I M E,  something most wedding photographers don’t give you AFTER the wedding is over.

You Deserve Better.

Portland Sunset

Mary & Aaron were married in Portland, at the St John’s McMenamins. As the sun went down outside, this brick wall was just begging to be included in one of their images:)

It was so exciting to go to Hawai’i with Shannon & Sean & their families. We met them last summer when we shot Shannon’s Brother’s Wedding at Paradise Springs in Oregon. We had such a great connection with all of them & they loved our work so it was a natural fit for us to shoot Shannon & Sean’s Wedding too.  Their Wedding was a simple & beautiful Hawaiian style with some elegant touches added in by Shannon’s Mom, who did an amazing job decorating everything. It was such a pleasure to be a part of their day. Quite honestly, we felt like extended family who just happened to have cameras & a little creativity with us;)

Washington D.C. by the Lincoln and Washington Memorials by Bruce Berg

Here are some other images from the engagement session I had in D.C., taken at night,

I was going more for the feeling of evening romance showing the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Doing something fun like this is memorable for them and me….

The image below is at the Jefferson Memorial the following day.  I love the repeating effects of the columns

Trash the Dress?

Even though it was stiflingly hot outside, this bride decided not to be plunged into the pond. This is from a wedding at the Big K Ranch in Elkton, Oregon.
